PJM and Cryotherapy in a New Approach for Spasticity Management: An Experimental Trial

Background: Spasticity has been proven to affect the quality of life and functional rehabilitation in patients post-stroke. Several studies aimed investigate ways reduce muscle tonicity this population. Peripheral joint mobilization (PJM) as well cryotherapy can be used effectively spasticity enhance range motion. Objectives: This study direct effect cryotherapy, that peripheral mobilization, on a primary outcome motion secondary stroke patients. Methods: Eighteen participants met inclusion criteria. Patients with ankle plantarflexor (n=14), biceps brachii (n=13), triceps (n=10) underwent our interventions two distinct visits. On first session, Kaltenborn’s PJM was performed, while second session ice-massaging technique applied brachii, gastrocnemius muscles over duration five continuous minutes. The assessment tools were Modified ashworth scale (MAS) assess level goniometer evaluate (ROM). Statistical tests performed using SPSS software, Version 23.0. Results: Cryotherapy showed significant reduction (p < 0.05), only had change muscle. For ROM, positive both active passive ranges.
